Es gibt schon länger Gerüchte über eine Box, die die Aufnahmen der 76er Rolling Thunder Tour enthält. Diese Tour führte Dylan bekanntlich durch den Süden der USA - von Florida westwärts bis Oklahoma (plus eine nachgeschobene Show in SLC). Jetzt kommt wohl ein 39 CD-Set mit allen überlebenden Aufnahmen, die offizielle Bestätigung steht noch aus, aber bei Sony Music ist schon eine Tracklist geleakt. Ich habe zu Hause die Boxen von 1966 und 1974 stehen. Das ist einerseits cool, aber andererseits hört man die natürlich maximal einmal im Leben komplett durch. Also jedenfalls war es bei mir so, dass ich einzelne Konzerte noch mal rausnehme, aber gerade bei der 66er Box sind viele Aufnahmen vom Sound nicht so besonders. Und bei beiden Boxen sind die Setlists doch am Ende sehr redundant. 1966 hat Dylan praktisch immer das gleiche Konzert gespielt. Das braucht man dann nicht unbedingt 32 mal.

Wir reden hier aber von 1976 und da gibt es doch deutlich mehr Vielfalt.

Ganz sicher. Aber es bleibt trotzdem die Frage, wie oft man dann so eine ganze Box hört, denke ich. Was noch lange nicht heißt, dass ich nicht auch daran interessiert bin.

39-disc box set captures all professionally recorded shows from the 1976 second leg of the legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour, all from original tape sources. The box includes 381 tracks, 371 of which have never been released, plus a booklet with liner notes by Mikal Gilmore and rare photographs.

The second leg of the legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour saw Dylan welcome old friends and collaborators to his troupe. Dylan reunited with Joan Baez to perform a moving set of duets across many dates, including performances of “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Railroad Boy.” Dylan’s band included bassist Rob Stoner, violinist Scarlet Rivera, drummer Howie Wyeth (who had all worked on the chart-topping album Desire), guitarists Mick Ronson (of David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars), Steven Soles, David Mansfield and T Bone Burnett.

Ich überlege noch. Ich habe zu Hause die Box „The 1975 Live Recordings“ stehen, die ja auch immerhin 14 CDs enthält. Dazu habe ich die „Bootleg Series, Vol. 5“. Das komplette Konzert von 1976, das jetzt auf LP veröffentlicht wird, ist ja teilweise schon auf der Liveplatte „Hard Rain“ zu hören. Die finde ich musikalisch nicht so gut wie die Aufnahmen von 1975.

Kommt eben auf die persönlichen Vorlieben an. Mit der RTT 1975 hat die RTT 1976 erstaunlich wenig zu tun, Dylan ist viel wilder, ungezügelter und auch wütender. Die Tour ist insgesamt viel schlechter dokumentiert als viele andere Dylan-Tourneen. Die große Ausnahme ist Hard Rain und das gleichnamige TV-Special, die aber nicht das gesamte Konzert enthalten und einige bekannte Bootlegs wie "Hold The Fort For What It's Worth", das das gesamte Konzert aus Fort Worth enthält. Für mich ist die Box ein Traum, ich habe darauf seit der 1966er-Box gewartet.
