1986 war ein extrem ereignisreiches Jahr mit einer wirklich bemerkenswerten Anzahl an Alben, die oft als die besten der jeweiligen Artists genannt werden: Smiths, Arthur Russell, Janet Jackson, die Thrash-Metal Klassiker, Peter Gabriel,... . Hier lohnt sich die Rückschau definitiv. Steven Wilson und Tim Bowness gehen in ihrem Podcast auch darauf ein, dass 1986 ein Jahr war, in dem es egal war aus welcher Richtung du kommst, man hört dir an, dass es 1986 ist. Egal ob du Neil Young, Paul McCartney, New Order oder Janet Jackson bist, du hast ein '86er Album gemacht– Die Studiotechnik war einfach zu präsent. Ich höre das auch, gleichzeitig ist es natürlich auch richtig, dass es schon die Gegenbewegungen gab, die ich aber auch nicht losgelöst von den großen Trends betrachten würde.
